We live on a farm with farm birds. Any suggestions on managing interest in these birds?

If a dog is developing point on birds and learning how to hunt the field- however they have been cc; do you recall with the collar if they get way out during that session, or skip it having no association with electricity during that development stage and use whistle only? Thx. :)
